Meet Up and Coming Author, Constance Freeman, Author of the debut novel, "Guilty Pleasures"

PWLGB: When did you decide you wanted to write?

CF:  I have been writing poetry for a while now. I decided to step it up to another level a few months ago. I wanted to see if I could express in words to people what was in my head all the time.

PWLGB:  How many novels in all have you written?

CF: This is my first novel.

PWLGB:  How long did it take you to write your first novel?

CF:  It took me about 2 months. I was determined to finish it. It seems as though that is all I did. I sat at my computer to late hours at night trying to produce a great story.

PWLGB: Tell us about "Guilty Pleasures".

CFGuilty Pleasures is about Love, sacrifice, coming of age, desire, and finding salvation.  The main character Vanessa is a very ambitious lawyer in a big city.  She has just recently ended a relationship with her long-time boyfriend and meets  the ever-so-fine  Dr. Preston Taylor.  She falls in love with everything about him.  She eventually ends up pregnant and finds out he is married with children.

PWLGB: Where do you get your inspiration for your stories?   Are the characters based on real people?

CF:  I get inspiration for my stories from everyday situations and how we tend to forget everybody has drama in their lives. The characters are based on real instances and the story is based on life application.

PWLGB:  After writing your first novel, did you self-publish?? If so, how was that experience?

CF:  Since I am a first-time author, I figured I needed to self-publish. I don’t have an audience yet but I am hoping to develop one with the help of Guilty Pleasures. Self-publishing is a chore. There is much work to be done. I am striving for success because so many great African American authors have paved this path before me. It is rewarding to see readers acknowledge you for your work and appreciate it for what it is. To see yourself accomplish your dream makes the self-publishing part of it much easier.

PWLGB:  What authors do you admire? Did one of them inspire you?

CF:  I admire those authors that did the work and showed me that it can be done. Kimberla Lawson-Roby, Michael Baisden, E. Jerome Dickey to name a few. I was reading God’s Gift To Women and as I read his acknowledgements I realized I could do this.

PWLGB: Is writing your only passion?

CF:  I am a sports fanatic beyond writing. I have a passion for children. I have two myself and they are my joy. I like making them happy. Seeing a child happy makes God happy. They are our future. If I can do something to inspire or uplift a child I feel as thought I am fulfilling my purpose.

PWLGB:  Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

CF:  I see myself as a best selling author with more titles to my credit.

PWLGB:  What advice would you give aspiring authors?

CF:  I would tell aspiring authors to give all Glory and Honor to God. If they can believe it they can achieve it. It is an old saying but it works. If at first you don’t succeed, don’t stop trying.

PWLGB:  What would you like readers to learn from your stories?

CF:  I want my readers to know that there is an answer to everything. It may not be what we want to hear but it may be the best advice we can get.

PWLGB:  Are you working on another novel? If so, What is it about?

CF:  I am working on another novel right now. This will be about personal strength and faith. The title isDon’t Hit Me No More”.

PWLGB:  Where can people purchase your books? Do you have a website?

CF:  You can go to to my personal website. It has a link that will take you to my storefront where you can view a description of the book and place an order. You can also view a preview. Thanks.
